I am GREEN

I have been awarded the National Association of REALTORS®’ Green Designation, the only green real estate professional designation recognized by NAR. This means that I have gained extensive knowledge of issues of sustainability in relation to real estate. More specifically, have been trained in understanding what makes a property green, helping clients evaluate the costs and benefits of green building features and practices, distinguishing between industry rating and classification systems, listing and marketing green homes, discussing the financial grants and incentives available to homeowners, and helping consumers see a property’s green potential. I am excited about earning the GREEN Designation as it continues the life trend my husband and I have been on for some time. Of course I started my green path like most everyone else, with recycling, composting, using refillable drinking bottles, bringing my own shopping bags and generally being aware of my impact. It expanded further when I wanted to understand where my food was coming from. Now I support many local ranchers, farmers and businesses that also are concerned with their impact on the community.

When I made the move to real estate I was shocked at how un-green the industry is. I took the extra training not only to help my clients understand the facts and fiction around green homes but to apply green principles to my business. As a result I will be presenting a lot of my information digitally to my clients, rather than on paper. Though I will not be able to take all the paper out of a transaction, I wanted to take a leadership role in the effort to change my new industry.
