Holiday Dining in San Francisco

The holidays are a fun time in San Francisco. Like most cities, we deck our streets and avenues with festive decorations, put on a variety of events, and even break out an ice rink even though it never really gets below freezing here. On Christmas Day proper, things get pretty quiet around here as many folks head out of town. If you're sticking around, though, and are not so interested in hosting your own Dickens-worthy dinner, there are still plenty of places to enjoy a nice meal. Of course you can go for the cliché Chinese food. (One year, we ended up enjoying okonomiyaki at a restaurant in Japantown.) But if you're looking to do something a little fancier, Tablehopper's got a nice list of places doing special holiday meals, such as Pläj's Scandinavian Christmas, and a substantial list of restos observing the classic Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. Yum!

Meanwhile, if you're celebrating Hanukkah (or just like potatoes), Eater's got a roundup of places to enjoy latkes around town. We might be schlepping to Wise Sons Delicatessen for just that reason.
